I interviewed a friend of my husband’s named Timeon. He has a rich background in comics and graphic novels. He began looking at comics when he was around three years old. In his youth, Timeon enjoyed the action-packed comics that contained more violence. However, as he grew older, he began enjoying graphic novels for the in-depth stories they told. Timeon explains that he enjoys rich story-telling in the graphic novels he reads as an adult. He spent some time in Japan and found that the people use graphic novels as a social tool to help teach life lessons. Timeon described his time in Tokyo and what it was like to walk down through the gaming district where they had all sorts of graphic novels. Today he learns of graphic novels through recommendations on apps, this became his normal method for seeking new books once Covid hit. His favorite graphic novel is called The Gamer written by Sangyoung Sung and illustrated by Sang-Ah. The main character in this story is given the power to interface with life as if it was a video game. Timeon is currently reading a Korean Comic titled The Breaker written by Jeon Geuk-jin and illustrated by Park Jin-hwan.
